Characters
So Here's a BIG list of characters, with descriptions: (and please do not copy)
Lord Voldemort - The universal "bad guy" of the HP series. His real name is Tom Marvolo Riddle. His father was a muggle and his mother a witch. He grew up in an orphanage after his mother died and his father left him. He resented his father his entire life and later killed him. Riddle was a prefect and Head Boy and Heir of Slytherin. Riddle transformed into Voldemort after undergoing many changes, he became dark and evil and powerful. He was ambitious and did anything he could for power. He gained power slowly for nearly a decade and began taking over everywhere. No one knew who to trust at the time. He was just rising to greater heights of power when he met a major defeat through Harry Potter. Harry's mother had died to save Harry and the traces of her love saved Harry. Voldemort never knew any kind of love in his "life." No one really knows why he wanted to kill all the Potters. Lilly Potter did not have to die, he only wanted to kill the Potters, but why? J.K. Rowling will probably tell us some time, but for now all we have are rumors... Maybe because He was the Heir of Slytherin and the Potters were the "Heir of Gryffindor" ? (after all, they lived at "Godric's Hollow." )....
Gryffindors:
Harry Potter - The main character who has uncontrollable
black hair, glasses, bright green eyes and a thin lightning-shaped scar on his
forehead.. He lives with his Uncle and Aunt until he is eleven because his parents
were killed by the dark Lord Voldemort. Harry defeated and escaped from Voldemort
with only his scar. This was because his mother died for him because of her
great love for Harry, and so left a mark on him. Voldemort doesn't know love,
so was nearly destroyed by Harry. Harry, however doesn't know this until his
11th birthday. Then he finds an escape from the Dursleys when he is accepted
to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. His best friends, who also go
there, are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. He has a crush on Cho Chang.
He is always breaking rules. Harry Potter is kind, brave, daring and has a good
heart. He is also a Parselmouth. He now has a small wizard fortune his
parents left him. He became famous because he "defeated" Voldemort, but he doesn'r
like all the attention he gets. Harry is an excellent broomstick flyer, and
plays seeker for the Gryffindor House Quidditch Team. Harry doesn't know why
Voldemort keeps coming after him, so neither do we. Go to Daily Prophet Rumors
to see what some people think about it or our Discussion Chamber.
Ron Weasley - Harry's friend who has flaming red
hair (like all the Weasleys), freckles, a long nose and is pretty tall. Most
of his stuff was previously owned by one of his brothers, even some of his "pets."
He has a crush on Fleur Delacour. He never really gets much attention from anyone,
he is always pushed aside. He's really nice and friendly. His favorite Quidditch
Team is the Chudley Cannons. His family is pretty poor.
Hermione Granger - Harry's friend who has bushy
brown hair and large front teeth, she always gets top scores in everything and
is a very clever witch. She is also kind and nice. She has a cat named Crookshanks.
She is a muggle-born, so has ideas that many other wizards and witches don't
like (example - SPEW). Her parents are dentists.
Fred & George Weasley - The clever, hilarious,
mischievous twin brothers of Ron, are always up to trouble, sometimes compared
with James Potter and Sirius Black when they were younger. They want to open
a Joke Shop when they get out of school. They are also very clever and get good
grades.
Ginny Weasley - Ron's younger sister, one year younger
than him, she's "taken to Harry." and gets embarrassed easily (like most of
the Weasleys). She usually has no one else to talk to, she comes from a big
family of boys and at school doesn't have too many friends.
Percy Weasley - Ron's annoying older brother by
four years, he loves following the rules. He was prefect in books 1-2 and Head
Boy ("big"head boy) in Book 3. He works at the Dept. of International Magical
Cooperation at the Ministry of Magic in book 4.
Charlie Weasley - Ron's older brother, a superb
Quidditch player (he could have played for England). He works with dragons in
Romania in Books 1-4.
Bill Weasley - The oldest Weasley brother. He works
for Gringotts in Egypt (breaking old curses, "bringing home lots of treasure",
etc. ). He used to be Headboy. He's "cool", and looks like he could fit in at
a rock concert. He hasn't seen Hogwarts in five years. He has long hair and
a fang-earring.
Neville Longbottom - A clumsy, forgetful, almost
squib boy, who is friends with Ron, Hermione, and Harry. He is good at Herbology,
and reminds us somewhat of Peter Pettigrew. He lives with his stern grandma.
His parents were Aurors and after being tortured by he-who-must-not-be-named's
supporters, they went insane.

football (soccer) team and everything about soccer.

Irish and is another of Harry and Ron's friends.

has a twin sister. She and her friend Lavender Brown are Professor Trelawney's
favorites in Divination class.
Lavender Brown- Parvati Patil's best friend, who
is one of Professor Trelawney's favorites in Divination class. She is also kind
of weird like Parvati.
Colin Creevey - A mousy-brown-haired boy, one year
younger than Harry. A Harry Potter fanatic.
Dennis Creevey - Colin's little brother, just as
over-excited and fanatical as Colin

around Malfoy and his cronies.

Ghosts/Elves/Other
Creatures:
Nearly-Headless Nick - Full name: Sir Nicholas de
Mimsy-Porpington. He's a nice old ghost, but really misses being a human. The
Resident Ghost for Gryffindor.
The Bloody Baron - A really scary ghost. The Resident
Ghost for Slytherin. He doesn't talk much. He's the only one that can control
Peeves (no one knows why...). No one knows why he is so "bloody."
The Fat Friar - A jolly ghost, the Resident Ghost
for the Hufflepuffs. He's kind and nice.
The Grey Lady - The Resident Ghost for Ravenclaw.
Moaning Myrtle - An annoying ghost girl that never
stops crying. She has major self-esteem problems. Everyone used to make fun
of her when she was at school. She died when she saw a basilisk snake that the
Heir of Slytherin (Tom Riddle/Voldemort) let loose.
Peeves the Poltergeist - An annoying ghost that
likes to make lots of trouble. Only the Bloody Baron can control him. He doesn't
even listen to the teachers. He gets students in trouble many times.
The Wailing Widow - A ghost from Kent that went
to Nearly-Headless Nick's Deathday Party.
Sir Patrick - Ghost leader of the Headless Hunt.
Really kind of selfish.
Buckbeak - Hagrid's hippogriff. It attacked Draco
Malfoy and almost got executed. He is with Sirius now. He is not really dangerous,
Malfoy is just cruel.
Dobby - A house elf that used to work for the Malfoy's
and tried to save Harry but almost killed him, he now works at Hogwarts and
gets paid.
Winky - Barty Crouch's house elf who he dismisses
in book 4, she took care of Barty Crouh JR.
Hedwig - Harry's pet snowy white owl. She likes
to feel important.
Pigwidgeon - Ron's pet owl. He's really small. Sirius
Black gave it to him. Ginny nicknamed him "Pig," even though he looks nothing
like a "pig" at all.
Crookshanks - Hermione's pet cat. He is really very
clever. Some people think he may even be an animagi, he's that clever. He's
friends with Sirius Black. He can recognize "good" and "bad" people and animagi
and animals.
Trevor - Neville Longbottom's pet frog.
Norbert - A Norwegian Ridgeback dragon that Hagrid
tried to adopt. Harry and Hermione had to help get the dragon away before Hagrid
got in trouble (Ron couldn't go with them at the time).
Aragog - Hagrid's giant spider friend that lives
in the Forbidden Forest. Hagrid first adopted him when he was in school and
got himself expelled before he would let him go. Some people suspected that
this was the horrible animal that caused people to be petrified by the Heir
of Slytherin years before.
Fluffy - A huge, three-headed dog of Hagrid's. He's
really quite tame once you play some music or something. Kind of like the three-headed
animal, named Cerberus, that guards Hades in Greek Legends.
The Whomping Willow - A ferocious tree that "hits
back." It was planted at Hogwarts so that Remus Lupin could use it as an entry
way to the Shrieking Shack, where he could transform into a werewolf. There
is a special spot on the tree that stops it from "hitting back."
Ronan - A centaur with "red hair and beard, with
a horse's gleaming chestnut body with a long, reddish tail." Like all centaurs,
he is a great star watcher and knows things about the future, but does nothing
to prevent what "the stars have destined." All centaurs "know things...jus'
don' let on much," and are sworn not to set themsselves "against the heavens."
Ronan is more sympathetic to Harry and Firenze than Bane. He is more lenient
with the "rules."
Bane - Another centaur, "black haired and -bodied
and wilder-looking than Ronan." Bane is much more strict on following
Centaur laws.
Firenze - A younger centaur, with "white-blond hair
and a palomino body" and "astonishingly blue eyes, like pale sapphires." Firenze
is more of a rebel. He is not one to simply stand by and watch things that he
knows will happen (like Ronan and Bane do). Instead he acts to stop bad things
he has foreseen from happening.
Mrs. Norris - Filch, the caretaker's cat. She is
his most beloved companion. She watches the halls with him and warns him when
she sees students out that shouldn't be. It's kind of weird how much Filch likes
the cat.
Nagini - Voldemort's pet snake that "fed" him and
kept him strong with its venom, in Book 4.
Griphook - One of the many goblins guarding Gringotts,
the Wizard Bank.
Fawkes - Dumbledore's pet phoenix. Has helped Harry
out many times. The pearly tears of a phoenix have healing powers. Phoenixes
"die" and are "reborn" every 100 years. The core of Harry's and You-Know-Who's
wands come from Fawkes' tail feathers.
The Sorting Hat - The hat "with a brain." that sorts
new Hogwarts students into their different houses. It's a "thinking-cap," once
on your head, it knows every thought you have. It was bewitched by the Hogwarts
founders (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw) so that students
could be placed in the different houses after they were gone. The Sorting Hat
sings a different "song" every year before the actual sorting. It never makes
a mistake.
Adults:
Vernon Dursley - Harry's very mean, purple faced
uncle who wants to have nothing to do with "Harry's kind". He likes showing
off a lot. He owns his own store, called Grunnings.
Petunia Dursley - Harry's mean, horse faced, bony
aunt who is always spying on the neighbors. She is Lilly Potter's sister, and
seems kind of jealous of her sister and all the attention she got because she
was a witch.
Marjorie Dursley (Aunt Marge) - Vernon's sister
who loves dogs, her favorite dog is Ripper. Aunt Marge hates Harry and loves
her nephew Dudley.
Mrs. Figg - She's an old lady whose smells like
cabbage and cats. She often baby-sat Harry when he was with the Dursleys. We
don't really know if she has anything to do with "Arabella Figg" part of "the
old crowd" that Dumbledore mentions at the end of Book 4.
Rubeus
Hagrid - The lovable, half-giant friend of Harry's, who has an unusual
love for dangerous creatures. He used to be at Hogwarts at the same time as
You-Know-Who, and was falsely accused of a crime he didn't commit, and
expelled. Now he is the Care of Magical Creatures Teacher. The gamekeeper for
the school.
Professor Albus Dumbledore - The headmaster of Hogwarts,
a very powerful wizard and very old and also very nice he has a long silvery
beard and loves lemon drops. He was the transfiguration teacher when Voldemort
was at Hogwarts. He's one of the adults that Harry feels he can trust. Dumbledore
is a little nutty, but is still a very good person, and he loves the school
as much as the school loves him. JKR has mentioned in a Canadian interview that
he is about 150 years old.
Aberforth Dumbledore - Albus Dumbledore's brother.
He was persecuted for "practicing inappropriate charms on a goat."
Albus Dumledore is not entirely sure that he can read.
Professor Minerva McGonagall - The very strict transfiguration
teacher, also the head of the Gryffindor house. She is also pretty sensitive,
and will cry when bad things happen. She's actually a pretty nice person, and
around middle age.
James
Potter (Prongs) - Harry's dad who put up a good fight with Voldemort
so that LIlly and Harry could get away from Voldemort. James Potter was best
friends with Sirius Black, and also friends with Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew.
Pettigrew betrayed him and cause his and Lilly's deaths. He was Head Boy in
his time. He was a very clever wizard. He was also an animagi, he could turn
into a stag (that's why Harry's Patronus is a stag). He was tall and looked
a lot like Harry, except for the eyes.
Lilly Potter - Harry's mom and Petunias sister,
her parents were muggles. She was also a very clever witch, good at Charms.
She died to save Harry from Voldemort. She was Head Girl in her time at Hogwarts.
Petunia hates her a lot. Harry has her bright green eyes, and J.K. Rowling mentions
them often (maybe something will come up later on.....). She was a pretty young
woman with long hair.
Mr. Arthur Weasley - He is Ron's father. He is the
head of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office at the Ministry of Magic. He really
likes Muggle things a great deal, and reminds some people of a grown-up kid.
He works a lot. He is a fully qualified wizard, and would have moved up in the
Ministry if he wasn't attached to Muggles so much.
Mrs. Molly Weasley - Ron's very nice mother who
loves Harry she does not like Rita Skeeter. She reads Witch Weekly and always
welcomes Harry and Hermione into her home. She works very hard too, feeding
and clothing eight people. She has a very strong spirit and a good heart. She
gets mad easily and isn't someone to cross when she is angry. She rules her
house. A little on the chubby side.
Sirius Black (Padfoot) - The man convicted for killing
many muggles along with Peter Pettigrew on a street only hours after Voldemort
fell the first time ( Pettigrew really did it himself). He was wrongly placed
in Azkaban without a trial (because of Barty Crouch Sr. ). He escaped from Azkaban
and went after Pettigrew, who never really died. Sirius is an animagus (he turns
into a large, shaggy black dog). He is on the run because people still think
he's a murderer. He originally suspected Lupin of being the spy for Voldemort
(but he wasn't). He was James Potter's best friend, and is now Harry's godfather.
He is really kind, nice, and loves Harry a lot. He's also a really clever wizard.
Professor Remus Lupin (Moony) - The Defense Against
the Dark Arts teacher in Book 3. He went to school with Snape, Sirius Black,
James Potter, and Peter Pettigrew. He is a werewolf, so has trouble being trusted
by anyone. He often becomes ill because of he is a werewolf. He used to
think Sirius Black was a spy for Voldemort, and so caused the death of the Potters.
He found out he was wrong in Book 3. He was also part of some "old crowd" that
Dumbledore mentions at the end of Book 4 along with Sirius (maybe they were
a dark arts fighting team or something...).He is kind and very likeable. A good
teacher, too.
Peter Petigrew (Wormtail) - Another of the "gang"
of James Potter and Sirius Black. He turned out to be the real spy for Voldemort
that Lupin and Sirius suspected. He always likes hanging around wizards more
powerful than himself, wizards that could protect him. He was a deatheater.
He rejoined Voldemort and helped bring him back to strength in Book 4 (He "gave
his right hand" to perform Voldemort's tasks). He is really selfish and weak,
and also kind of stupid.
Professor Severus Snape - The mean, biased Potions
Master. He really hates Harry. He is the Head of the Slytherin House, and favors
Slytherins in his class. He used to go to school with Harry's father, Sirius
Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. He really didn't like any of them either.
He used to be some kind of Deatheater, but the good guys trust him for some
reason...He may have been some sort of spy for the good side....Harry doesn't
know why Dumbledore trusts him.
Professor Flitwick - The small Charms Teacher. We
think he is the Head of Ravenclaw House.
Professor Binns - The extremely boring History of
Magic Teacher. Keeps teaching even though he's a ghost. Some people say he didn't
even notice he was dead.
Professor Sprout - "A squat little witch who wore
a patched hat over her flyaway hair; there was usually a large amount of earth
on hear clothes and fingernails." Usually very cheerful. She is the Herbology
teacher. She is the Head of Hufflepuff House.
Professor Sybill Trelawney - The weird, slightly
mental Divination Teacher, who likes to talk about death a lot. She is usually
very "misty" and not right abou t a lot of things.
Professor Sinistra - The Astronomy Teacher.
Madame Pomfrey - The "Nurse" at Hogwarts. Works
in the hospital wing at hogwarts.
Madame Hooch - The physical education teacher.
Madame Pince - The strict school librarian.
Argus Filch - The nasty caretaker of Hogwarts. He
is a squib and spends a lot of time cleaning and wiping, etc. He can't do anything
by magic, so gets really angry when people mess around with his cleaning. He
doesn't trust any student, and wishes he could punish them the "old way" with
chains and stuff. He
is purposely named "Argus" after a fictional Greek character who watched
over people.
Sir Cadogan - The crazy "portrait" that guarded
the Gryffindor Common Room for a while. He was easily overexcited and continually
pushed others to duel.
The Fat Lady - The "portrait" that normally guards
the Gryffindor Common Room. She is pretty nice, but can be really touch at times.
She is often out at "parties" and gossips a lot.
Violet - "Vi." The Fat Lady's friend who visits
her often. She likes to gossip quite a bit.
Professor Quirrell - The Defense Against the Dark
Arts teacher in Book 1. He turned out to be in league with Voldemort, and died
when he left his body. He was young and very gullible.
Professor Lockhart - The Defense Against the Dark
Arts teacher in Book 2. He is really full of himself. Many of the girls "fancied"
him. Many of the teachers and students really didn't like him, he liked taking
credit for the things that other people did, and thought he was the best at
everything. He messed up his memory when a memory charm backfired on him. *Oh
Well..*
Godric
Gryffindor -He was one of the founders of Hogwarts. He was "bold"
and "from wild moor." The Gryffindor House is named after him. Harry's parents
lived at "Godric's Hollow." We don't know if this has any relation to Gryffindor.
Helga Hufflepuff - She was one of the founders of
Hogwarts. She was "sweet" and "from valley broad." The Hufflepuff House is named
after her.
Rowena Ravenclaw - She was one of the founders Hogwarts.
She was "fair" and came "from glen." The Ravenclaw House is named after her.
Salazar Slytherin - He was one of the founders of
Hogwarts. He was shrewd and ambitious, and came "from fen." He did not
want mudbloods to come to Hogwarts, and it is rumored that he created a secret
chamber in the castle that only his Heir could open, to unleash horrors on mudbloods
and unfit wizards and witches. JKR
has mentioned in an interview that he is about 35 years old.
Cornelius
Fudge - The Minister of Magic. He views Harry as a kind of "favorite
nephew." He's not really too great at his job. Some people say that he's been
asking Dumbledore for help ever since he took on the job. Lately, he has split
ways with Dumbledore. He refuses to believe many things, he doesn't want to
know that bad things are going on all around him, even though they are.
Lucius Malfoy - Draco Malfoy's dad. He used to be
a school governor. He is a deatheater, and continued with his dark arts stuff
after Voldemort first disappeared.
Narcissa Malfoy - Lucius Malfoy's wife and Draco's
mother. Always looks as if "she's got dung under her nose."
Barty Crouch - Head (well, not anymore..) of the
Department of International Magical Cooperation in the Ministry of Magic. Never
became Minister of Magic because of his son. Does everything by the rules. Very
much against the Dark Arts. He worked too much, and ignored his wife and son.
Barty Crouch Jr. - Barty Crouch's son, who turned
to Voldemort's side. He was in Azkaban for a while, because he and a few others
tortured the Longbottoms for information. He got out of Azkaban because his
mother and he switched places (using the Polyjuice Potion) and he lived with
his father. His father used the Imperius Curse to control him and keep him from
getting away. He finally did get away and joined up with Voldemort again. Voldemort
called him his "most loyal supporter," but then was given the Dementor's Kiss.
Many say he turned out bad because his father never paid him enough attention.
He had straw-colored hair and freckles.
Mrs. Crouch - A frail, "wispy little witch" who
loved her son very dearly. She died in Azkaban so that he could be free. Her
husband probably never really appreciated her and her son.
Mad-Eye Moody - Used be one of the best aurors of
his time. Caught many dark wizards and saw many horrible sights. He doesn't
trust anyone anymore. He's a good friend of Mr. Weasley's and Dumbledore's.
Now many people think he's gone a little crazy.
Ludo (Ludovic) Bagman - The Head of the Department
of Magical Games and Sports at the Ministry of Magic (well, not anymore...).
He looks like an overgrown kid. He is really enthusiastic about his job, but
isn't too good at following the rules. He is kind of stupid. He once was once
caught passing information to Voldemort's supporters, but he was too dumb to
know it. He was tricked by a wizard named Rookwood (see below). He gambled a
lot, until a gambling deal went bad with a few goblins, so now he's kind of
on the run. Used to play beater for the Wimbourne Wasps Quidditch team.
Mr. Amos Diggory - Cedric's dad, he thinks Cedric
is better than Harry. He also works at the Ministry with Mr. Weasley. He works
for the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
Bertha Jorkins - A forgetful woman that works for
the ministry of magic, she gets killed by Voldemort. Always loved gossiping
and talking quite a bit.
Frank Longbottom and Mrs. Longbottom - A very popular
wzard and witch. Frank was an auror in his day. He and his wife were tortured
by Voldemort's supporters (the Cruciatus Curse), until they became insane. They
were Neville Longbottom's parents. They now stay at St. Mungo's Hospital for
Magical Maladies and Injuries. Neville has never mentioned them before.
Stan
Shunpike - The young conductor of the Knight Bus. He's nosy and likes
to talk a lot.
Ernie Prang (Ern) - an elderly wizard, the driver
of the Knight Bus.
Madame Malkin - Owner of Madam Malkins Robes for
All Occasions. She's pretty nice and motherly.
Mr. Ollivander - owner of Ollivander's Wands Shop.
Has very big, eerie eyes. Knows every wand he's ever sold. Recognizes people
by the wand he sold to them.'
Tom - The bartender at the Leaky Cauldron.
Madame Rosmerta - A waitress/bartendress at the
Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade.
Seems quite attractive.
Madame
Maxime - The Beauxbatons Headmistress, she is half-giant like Hagrid.
She is actually quite nice, not too strict. She and Hagrid "fancy" eachother.
Professor Karkaroff - The headmaster (well, not
anymore..) of Durmstrang. A former death eater. He turned in a lot of his friends.
There were rumors that he taught the Dark Arts to all his students.
Rita Skeeter - She loves to report scandalous
and outrageous things (and if they aren't that scandalous, she makes stuff up).
She is an animagus - a beetle. She's pretty weird and outrageous looking, too.
Kind of like a reporter for the tabloids.
Bozo - photographer that works with Rita Skeeter. Not sure if his name is really "Bozo" or if Rita Skeeter just talks to him that way..
Wilkes
- another deatheater, who, like Rosier was killed by aurors before
he surrendered. Sirius mentions him s one of the gang of Slytherins that Snape
hung out with.
Rosier - another deatheater, that died rather than
surrender to the Ministry. Found his downfall with Mad-Eye Moody when he was
an auror. He was part of the gang of Slytherins that Snape hung out with.
The Lestranges - A seriously evil married couple.
Deatheaters. In Azkaban for years. They were part of the gang of Slytherins
that Snape used to hang out with.
Avery - a deatheater, part of the gang of Slytherins
that Snape hung out with in school. He stayed out of Azkaban by claiming that
he had been under the Imperius Curse. I think there's a kid at Hogwarts with
